COACH - Collaborative Agri-food Chains: Driving Innovation in Territorial Food Systems and Improving Outcomes for Producers and Consumers
Project coordinator: Andrea Marescotti
The project COACH - Collaborative Agri-Food Chains: Driving Innovation in Territorial Food Systems and Improving Outcomes for Producers and Consumers' is a coordination and support action funded by the European Commission's Programme RUR-05-2020 - Connecting consumers and producers in innovative agri-food supply chains (Programme H2020).
The project, in which the Department of Economics and Management is a partner, involves a collaboration between 3 European university partners (University of Florence, Coventry University and ESSRG KFT) and 5 non-university European partners: FIAN International EV, Reseau International URGENCI, European Coordination Via Campesina, ICLEI European Secretariat and Kobenhavns Kommune.
The overall objective of the project is to facilitate the transition towards more sustainable, fair and healthy agri-food systems through cooperation between different types of partners (producers, consumers, local authorities, NGOs, etc.), in particular by supporting the dissemination of short supply chain forms capable of rebalancing the position of farmers and promoting social innovation in territorial agri-food systems.
The COACH project has five main objectives:
1. To develop a Living Library of good practices and case studies that demonstrate the different ways in which farmers can access opportunities created by consumers to improve their incomes and rebalance their position in agri-food chains;
2. produce a combination of training and capacity building activities to support farmers and small-scale producers in the agri-food system to access consumer information and develop their capacity to connect
3. provide new evidence and guidance on the costs and benefits at each stage of the supply chain, showing the opportunities for improving farmers' and small producers' incomes and reducing intermediaries' margins.
4. Design and launch a 'farm-to-fork' public procurement toolkit to support public authorities in developing appropriate tenders for the procurement of fresh and healthy food from small-scale producers
5. Maximise the impact of project activities through a Communications
Learning and Innovation Platform (CLIP) for the dissemination of results to a wide audience
